History of the temple

There is no clear evidence revealing actual age of the Temple. Devotees have been worshipping from traditions. Only the idol and some ruined parts of the temple remain in the memory of old people.


The Legend

In order to pull down the pride of Arjuna, both Shiva and Parvathi disguised as "Kiratha" and "Kirathi". They started fight with Arjuna. Finally, Arjuna was defeated and he realized that they were Lord Shiva and Parvathi. Suddenly he paid homage to them and they blessed him. The spiritual presence of Lord Shiva and Parvathi in this temple is on this feel (mood).


Present

Now Kavinpuram Devi Temple is very famous and attracting many devotees not only from the locality but from far places also. The temple is newly re-constructed by the remarkable efforts by devotees and committee members.


Temple

There are sub-temples of Lord Ganesha and Lord Sastha also, other than the main deity. Naga Raja, Naga Yakshi, Naga Kanyaka and Rakshas also bless devotees.


Festival

Festival is celebrated on 12th and 13th of "Dhanu" (normally during last week of December). Long procession known as "Kavinpuram Thalappoli", which attracts many people, is conducted during festival. "Ponkala" and "Naranga vilakku" held on the day of "Karthika" in the month of Vrischikom is very famous. Aranaazhipayasam, Niramala and Pushpanjali are main offerings. Other offerings are cracking coconut (Lord Ganesha), Neelanjanam (Lord Sastha), Palpayasam (Rakshas). Thalichukoda and Ayilyapooja (Sarpam). Swayamvara Pushpanjali on every Monday and Uma-Maheswara pooja on seventh Monday are famous for blessings for long married life.
